We are learning to read to self. This builds our reading stamina and helps us to get better at reading. We also have lots of fun reading!

Success Criteria
  • I read quietly
  • I concentrate on the book
  • I stay in space
  • I read the whole time
  • I get started straight away

How I am going

Read to self
Kerri thinks

I really like: Reading lots of new words and lots of different books.

I think I need to practice:  Reading more books from my book box and not one

Awhina, make great choices during read to self. You get started straight away, stay in one spot, focus on the book and read quietly. I am pleased you are enjoying chosing the books you want to read. During read to self you can choose what ever you want to read - poetry, book box, library corner, book from home, explore and experiment with all sorts of different books.

We are learning to build our confidence in and around the water. We practise our swimming skills and love to show off our new tricks.

This is what I have been practising:
Safe entry into the pool (1/4 turn entry)

Submerge and blow bubbles

Float on my back (Starfish)

I am really proud of:
Floating on my back like a star fish because I can do it for a long time
It is tricky when:
Picking up objects on the ground in the pool

The next thing I want to learn is: backstroke, using rocket arms on my back.
Awhina, it has been great to watch you improve your starfish during swimming this year. You could float on you back for hours! I think you can sometimes pick things up of the bottom of the pool, maybe when they haven't sunk all the way yet! Remember to keep on blowing those bubbles and to open you eyes to help you pick things up off the bottom.
